Emotions spill over

Emotions are spilling over at Virginia Tech.

Walking around the campus, examples are everywhere: Many students still seem to be in shocked disbelief, tears streaming down their faces.

Poignant notes, such as “God bless Virginia Tech,” are scrawled on numerous makeshift memorials -- including big pieces of plywood, painted white and written on with Sharpie pens.

Clearly anxious parents can be seen walking hand in hand with their children, probably the first time in ages that the kids have been willing to be seen holding hands with their moms in public.

Rarely do you see students walking alone; they always seem to be with friends, trying to make sense of it together.

As my heart is sadden for all of you at Virginia Tech, my religous teaching takes to to the book os Psalms. For it was there David did everything he could to make God mad at him only to awaken to find God took nothing back, but gave him more. I trust alll of those who are effected by this can find the peace God has for each and everyone of you in time. My prayers and thoughts go to each and everyone of those suffering. I only wish I could do more to ease the pain.

As a parent of a Virginia College student who has friends that attend V-Tech. I would like to express m heartfelt sympathy and sadness at what has occurred. I have never seen such courage, strength, maturity and compassion as I witnessed from you V-Tech students in the wake of this autocity. Godbless and keep you. You are all in my prayers.

Although I don't know anyone involved in this horrible tragedy, I am compelled to offer my prayers, my deepest sympathies to all the parents of the victims and to tell you that the entire nation supports and shares your sorrows. I pray for God to grant you all the strenght and courage to overcome this horrible, tragic lost of beautiful, young, innocent lives. Stay strong and God Bless you all!

When I look at all those beautiful faces,so sad and upset, I see images of my son, he is a Jr. in high school and deciding which college he wants to attend. This should be one of the happiest transitions in your lives-- To think something like this can happen, is heart wrenching, as parents its a nightmare--our prayers and thoughts are with you, come together and draw strength from each other, reach out and ask for help the whole nation is here for you. With all our love and deepest sympathy.

My prayers go out to everyone involved in this horrable incident. I agree about the Iraqi's but we didn't make the counrty the way it is

First I would like to say that my heart aches for all involved in this tragedy. I am sorry for your losses and I pray that you find comfort in each other.

I have been extremely fortunate to not lose a child but I do know the feeling of having a child at school in lock down. Our principal was killed by a student many years ago at our junior high. I cannot explain the fear that runs through your body and soul when your child is involved in a situation like this. But also as a member of the community who lost a beloved principal and troubled teen that day, I also know what it is like to feel a community come together to help heal one another.

You never totally heal and situations like this reopen the wound. But having a community stand together, heal together, pray together and mourn together helps to ease the emptiness inside.

I am so so terribly sorry and how I wish that you didn't have to go through this.

God bless all of you!

Such a senseless tragedy that so many young lives were brought to an end before they even got started. Being a mother myself, I can't possibly imagine what their parents are going through. My prayers are with them and their families. As for those that survived this cowardly act, I hope that you can get past this and live your life to the fullest. You are in my thoughts and prayers as well.

I just want to say that all the students and faculty are in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that God is still with you and is there to comfort you. I pray for strength to those who must return. It will not be easy. I pray for those famailies who have lost loved ones in this tradgey. You are all being remembered during this time. Remain close to one another, act in love, don't take your friends and family for granted. Peace to all of you.

This is a great tragedy and loss to all Americans, may God rest the fallen in peace and speed the recovery of the injured. But I can not understand why it took two and a half hours to bring the matter under control, where was campus security? where was people’s common sense??????????

As a graduate student here at Virginia Tech and as a parent of a six-month old baby girl, I find Monday's events incomprehensible and heart-wrenching. Like many here, I wait for news of the identities of those who are lost and wonder if my classmates are among them. My prayers for those parents who have lost their child here.

These occurances are happening too frequently in our world today. We need to take a hard look not just had things like security procedures but the way society is developing on a grand scale. Killers are being made and we need to correct what is being brought up, from a variety of influences. From some forms of music to television to what we as society have conformed to accept as ok. Abnormal behavior does not happen overnite and we should not look away when we see it. My sympathy is for all who have lost in this situation from the lives to those who are grieving.

May God hold all those touched by this senseless act in the palm of his hand and help you through this. The world prays for you.

God Bless Virginia Tech.God Bless those young students there and God Bless America. All of you at V.T. are in all of our hearts and prayers. Thank you for your strength and courage.

As a West Virginia University alumni and the mother of a college student at West Virginia University, I send my heartfelt prayers to the brave students, parents, and faculty of Virginia Tech. The students of WVU are having a candlelight vigil on campus and are having students sign a "sympathy" quilt which will be delivered to Virginia Tech. It's so good to see that students of rival colleges KNOW what's important, and will put aside rivalries to show love and concern for the victims of this disaster. You are in my every waking thought and I'm sincerely praying for the strength that you all need to get through this disaster.

As a graduate of Syracuse University class of 1990, I know what it is like to lose classmates to mass murder. We lost 35 classmates in Pan Am 103 in December of 1998. I am sure I speak for every alumni of that period when I say that we understand what a difficult time this is and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have just returned from VA TECH where I shared in the activities with my sophmore daughter and her friends yesterday. You can not help but be moved when you see how strong the Hokies are while at the same time dealing with such a tradgedy. The students are demonstrating a sense of community that seems to be lost in much of America. I hope as many have said we can find some good from such evil and learn from the Hokies about how to be a community. In the word of Winston Churchill "We shall not fail or falter; We shall not weaken or tire". Keep that Hokie spirit and be the best you and be at an excellent university. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

While there is much speculation about the administration and the police authorities as to whether they alerted the students on campus in time, I would just like to say, that hindsight is always 20-20. It is very easy for us to sit in judgement of these decisions. For those who are quick to cast ill feelings on adminstative officials, please let VT first deal with the problems at hand (ie. emotional support to the victims' families) and have some compassion for the fact that this just happened 48 hours ago. Stay strong students of Virginia Tech. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

May God Bless you and keep you safe in the wake of such a terrible tragedy. Although I can never know how deeply your lives have been affected...I can be comforted by the idea that love and support will aid you in conquering the devastation. Take care my friends...you will overcome!!!

Just to let everyone know that myself and my two children send to you and all the victims families and friends....We are from Biloxi, MS and we went trough a horrible tragedy during Hurricane Katrina, but that was a Mother Nature thing and could never compare to what you are going through.. But I would just like to say that during your grief and pain of it all, there is light in the future and all those we loose, we never forget and will always be touched by that person in one way or another. Our hearts and soul go out to everyone there..There should be no reason to have such hatred in this world, but there is and only the ones left behind can help with the healing process to come. And I know that God heals all wounds and is the only one who can help during this time of need. And coming from someone who has had two sudden losses within 6 months. I feel the pain and the sorrow for everyone.. May our prayers be with you all...... And remember: "Friends are very special...They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear and they share a word of praise." And that's what the Hokie family is all about..."Friends & Family" God Bless you all...

I want to express my heartfelt sympathy to those who have lost friends, family, and staff in this tragedy. Please know that you are thought of every moment of the day and are prayed for. I am lighting a candle each day in memory of those who lost their lives. May you feel the presence of a mighty and comforting God during this difficult time.

God bless you!

I wonder if any VT faculty member ever alerted his parents to their son's obvious mental and emotional problems? If not,or regardless,he should have been dismissed from the campus until he was judged mentally competent to attend VT.

I did not know anyone at Virginia Tech, however, I feel such rage and sorrow for the loss of such budding and beautiful people. How I wish I could turn back the clock. I'm angry. I'm frustrated. After reading and reading about this horrible, horrible tragidy I find myself thinking; how could some of the students just line up and let this crazy young man shoot them one by one! Why didn't they have the insight to rush him! Why did the university and police not take better action after the discovery of the first shooting at 7:15 A.M., two hour before the next on-slaught? Why didn't more students fight back? I pray that we americans standing on our homeland realize that we can not always wait for others to help us; each of us must find our own strengths and learn to protect ourselves!

I still can't believe that something like this has happened. How one man can wake up and do this. It's surreal to say the least. I don't know what more can be done to stop this type of violence. But whatever Rosie O'donnell says, I believe her.
