Emotions are spilling over at Virginia Tech.
Walking around the campus, examples are everywhere: Many students still seem to be in shocked disbelief, tears streaming down their faces.
Poignant notes, such as “God bless Virginia Tech,” are scrawled on numerous makeshift memorials -- including big pieces of plywood, painted white and written on with Sharpie pens.
Clearly anxious parents can be seen walking hand in hand with their children, probably the first time in ages that the kids have been willing to be seen holding hands with their moms in public.
Rarely do you see students walking alone; they always seem to be with friends, trying to make sense of it together.

As officials, students and families struggle to come to terms with the tragedy at Virginia Tech, a team of MSNBC.com reporters and editors and NBC News producers and correspondents is on the scene.
I would like to send my deepest sympathy and moral support to all the students that have to confront today with the reality of such a massacre. May God be with you and give you all courage it will take to return to your school. I offer my emotional support to any victim, and ensure my profound sadness to the victims and their families. May my thoughts be with with you, my prayers for peace in the world will include this tragedy.

The V-Tech incident happens twice a day in Iraq. As we search deep inside to mend this, also know that this is happening on a daily occurrence to the Iraqi people.

Earlier in the Spring the Oak Ridge, Tn Recreation and Parks Department supervisors interviewed several young people from Virginia Tech for summer jobs with the City of Oak Ridge. All of these young adults were very impressive throughout the interviw process. As the events of the tragedy unfolded, I kept seeing their faces in my minds eye and it made it all the more real for me. I am personally devastated by this tragic event. I do not think any of the young people that I have met were among the dead or the physically wounded but I know that what they have experienced will impact them for the rest of their lives. I pray that they all find strength, courage and peace through their faith, through their friends and families and through their communities.

When I look at all those beautiful faces,so sad and upset, I see images of my son, he is a Jr. in high school and deciding which college he wants to attend. This should be one of the happiest transitions in your lives-- To think something like this can happen, is heart wrenching, as parents its a nightmare--our prayers and thoughts are with you, come together and draw strength from each other, reach out and ask for help the whole nation is here for you. With all our love and deepest sympathy.

Are you kidding me people? I would be FURIOUS!!!
This kid made it clear to MANY PEOPLE he had issues. And no one did anything (and gave everyone TWO hours to get away had they been alerted)! Ridiculous. If it were my child killed or he/she even attended that school I would be down there right now getting ready to sue the school and the local police for not doing anything. It's like watching the woman be rapped in Central Park and doing NOTHING about it!!! This is absolutely hideous that people don't take things of this nature seriously. Jurisdiction my a**! After having worked in the US Senate and Washington DC for 10 years I am appalled that even Congress hasn't inacted emergency legislation regarding something like this. The Constitution? Seriously? I highly doubt Thomas Jefferson was thinking about mass killings in schools when he said 'YES GO FORTH EVERYONE... CARRY A WEAPON!'

Where is the real war...Iraq or here? Until our politicians stop working for the lobbyists and start working for their constituents these atrocities will unfortunately continue.

"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."

I as a parent cannot begin to comprehend the level of pain that the loved ones of the victims are going through. But just as surely as death's messenger came and wreacked havoc one innocent Monday morning, so too surely is the omnipotence of God's glory. Let us all remember the innocent victims not only in Blacksburg but all around the world where violence creeps in through an open window. God Bless!

I wonder, did anyone reach out to this young man for sincere friendship? After listening to the interviews of his roommates, it sounded as though they were not very nice to him. Making fun of someone and going around warning girls of him just made him more angry, depressed and determined not to live. We need to be more compassionate as a nation and learn to treat people the way we want to be treated. I'll bet some the people that are talking about him now, were not very nice to him. I totally agree with the comment regarding Iraq and how those people must feel everyday, with no relief in sight. Why is it that we as Americans think our lives are much more important or valuable than any other human life? Another example of no compassion or apathy. Sure, this is a tradegy and I definitely know how those that lost their loved ones must feel, but at the same time I'm feeling how that young man must have felt on a daily, as well.
My prayers go to ALL affected by this!

Hello ALL,
I am really very upset about the tragedy of VT. Energetic and future assets have been massacred by a student who was wearing a sun-glass in classrooms, planning to kill young successful people, because they were doing better than him. Students and faculty complained, and the university officials did not respond. While the police was questioning the wrong person, the South-Korean killer was killing diversified students and faculty who did not look rich and wealthy to me. What bother me too was that some of those university officials have not reacted and entertained people’s complaints on this killer, and when a disaster has occurred, those officials still keep sending their cronies to try to explain the event. I would like to suggest that an independent investigation be taken place by the federal government, and inefficient officials, administrators and police, should be punished. The South-Korean government has to pay compensations for the family’s victims. This is a fair request and this is the way students can be protected by killers who like to make the news. Many thanks to the MSNBC for covering this event and for the interviews provided to us: They really broke the hell of my heart. Best Regards.

My sympathies and prayers to the families and the community.
My daughter was at the Thurston shootings in Springfield. She is now 27 years old. She adamatly believed she did not need help because she "didn't personally know any of the victims". I implore you all to reach out and talk about it. Consider the idea that it IS and will continue affecting you. Any school shooting ripples out and affects us all. Those of you who were there, on campus, it's different. Those of you who were at school, even if you weren't in the same buildings, you were affected. Please remember to reach out! Go to some group counseling sessions even if you don't believe you need to. My daughter ended up with some significant health issues that are stress induced. It's much easier to deal with before it becomes internalized. When Columbine happened she ended up in the fetal position for hours. This shooting, almost 10 years later, IS STILL significantly affecting her.
I know the emotions are raw and advice from outsiders is pouring in from all over. I worry about my daughter alot. Although counseling may not have helped her, it definitely wouldn't have hurt. It was available and she refused. To this day, she doesn't believe she needs counseling because she has an "I can handle it" attitude. These shootings affect the country yes, but the immediate students, their families (not knowing for God knows how long if your student was safe or not):parents, siblings, significant others etc... Please, reach out and ask for help. I know how the Thurston shootings affected my family and extended family and I know how any school shooting affects us all differently now than before.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you all

Americans have felt that we are so removed from this type of violence. Other countries have dealt with these types of killings for years. I do not have answers but we should start asking ourselves the questions and we should start as parents to see our children and their personality patterns at an early age. STOP the blame game because where does that get us, it does not open diaglouge it is simple finger pointing. Let us all take responsiblity for our lives, our children, our neighborhood. And I for one thank God that I have my children safe, or as safe as they can be.

Two hours wasted because racist thoughts crippled the minds and common sense of law enforcement officers. I am convinced that if the first two students killed together had both been white, the situation would have been handled differently. The cancer of racism will never be eradicated in America. Now we have a record setting massacre of beautiful young lives and minds. People who would have made a difference had they been given the chance. My heart aches for their families and friends.

My deepest sympathies to all the families even remotely affected everywhere and a prayer:
In humble prayer, God grant to those in need:
Courage in the face of tragedy,
Faith in the face of fear and devastation,
Strength to rebuild, remember, and step into the future.
A blessing to ease all troubled folk; to keep their minds clear of thoughts that should ever lead to an action such as this. Amen

The massacre at Virginia Tech is in no way compared to Iraq as Mark from Seattle wrote. V-tech is a university, not a battlefield. Let's show compassion and not use this horrific event as a politial soap box. Go Hokie Nation!
