EVANS CREEK, La. –- While those who felt Katrina’s wrath have a lot to worry about, the first thing we hear most often from their mouths has to do with easing the concerns of others: “How can I let my friends and family know I’m alright?”

With communications, including cellular phone service, still virtually nonexistent in many areas hit by Katrina, evacuees and the people who weathered the initial onslaught but have been incommunicado ever since are desperately trying to reach out to let the world know they’re OK.

In an effort to get the word out, MSNBC.com is running lists of those known to be safe and the still missing. As we encounter people eager to communicate the most important news of all -– that they’re alive -– or looking for information on a missing friend or relative, we’ll also be adding to those lists.
