Looking for Miss Kitty

Posted: Wednesday, September 7 at 10:33 am CT by Mike Brunker

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – We’re back on the road, headed west again, bound for Slidell, La., for a look at the badly damaged city and to see if we can get anywhere near Bill Harris’ condominium. We’ve also contacted an animal rescue organization to see if there’s interest in helping us look for a “miracle” cat.

I am glad that MSNBC is doing this blog. I like to hear more than statistics and how much of an area has been affected when I don't even know that state let alone an area of it. I think it is great that MSN is giving people states away a manner of connecting with the people affected. We all understand what it would be like to lose our dear pets, but many of us could not fathom if we woke up one day and our house was gone down to the foundation. My prayers and heart is with those who are victimized by this horrible event. and I hope Bill finds Miss Kitty.

Any news on the little boy who had his dog "snowball" taken from him while he was being evacuated? In a scary situation- kids latch on to their pets for dear life - why couldn't the grown up comfort this little boy and let him keep his dog instead of making him physically sick.

I glad to see that others realize that these people don't need anything added to their plight. Starting
from them not getting help sooner because they are black and poor, and not considering the lose of their pets and also adding to the list of dead animal there would be.
Wish they would start asking for clothes and etc, for am sure they need them now , as they only have
what is one their backs. I live in Phila, Pa. and
some 600 have arrived and have many things I could give. Mary (Phila.)

We've been trying to get word to Don & Betty Talbot of
Bluebird St in Slidell. Don't have any idea where they may be-any info appreciated. Praying for all who
are suffering.

I would like to add my THANK YOU for caring enough for the animals (specifically in this case, Miss Kitty) to at least try to get some help out to her and hopefully reunite her with Bill. I read your post yesterday about Bill and his "hero" Miss Kitty". I did email Noah's Wish in hopes that they too, could maybe do something to help out.

I do understand how precious human lives are, I believe our pets lives are just as precious.

Thanks again for your efforts to help find "Miss Kitty".

Also checking on Moss Point residents - Denny & Sherry Howell. We know they made it out of their house but have been unable to make contact since Mon. am.

PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE GAMBLE FAMILY(YVONNE GAMBLE IS THE MOTHER) FROM MOBILE ALABAMA LET ME KNOW-I DO NOT KNOW THEM- BUT I KNEW THEIR SON JAMES EDWARD LAVALE GAMBLE IN SEATTLE- I JUST WANT TO KNOW THEY ARE OK...THANK YOU

Every living creature has a soul and miss kitty deserves to be rescued along with everyone else.

Good luck in finding her.

I believe it is important to respect the cares and concerns of the people actually going through this tragedy. we are all one in the United Stated no matter what race we are, we should love, respect, and help one another. Instead of being so opionated and disrespectful to one another..

What the west bank of new orleans how much damage is their.

For those that didn't feel that "looking for Miss Kitty" wasn't important enough to post, please realize our pets are family. When all you have left is "family," no matter what that is, it's devastating to be away from them. I didn't realize after all they'd been through that Bill and Miss Kitty were separated. Hopefully she'll be located and they'll be reunited. My heart goes out to everyone out there that's been so tragically affected by Katrina. God bless you all.

I am also and animal lover I would probably stay with my animals I don't think that i could leave them. I think is it wrong that they are making them leave their animals especially if it is going to take a while before they will be able to return. Good luck to everyone, I have family in Bilouxi, Mississippi (they are safe) that have lost everything they worked so hard for

Pets are a part of your family. You worry about them when they're ill, you take them to the Doctor(vet), feed and house them and in return you get the most unconditional love you will probably ever experience outside of a parents love for their child. They are steadfastly loyal and they are completely dependant on you to take care of them. People should not be asked to leave them behind because it is their "hour of need" also. Pet owners are loving people(mostly)and to expect them to abandon their "kids" on top of everything else they have lost is just cruel. To some people a beloved animal companion is all they have. Another reason to let pets evacuate with their families is it justs adds to the unsanitary conditions if these animals are left behind to die. Clean-up is going to be hard enough without having to deal with rotting carcusses of animals. Please, those with authority, have a heart and don't seperate families from their much loved pets. My prayers are with my neighbours to the south. Caring in Canada.

I think it is tragic that more provisions have not been made for the rescue of animals, as well as letting the pets come with the families as they evacuate. Our four-legged friends are family, they have souls and they are children to us. There is no way I could have left without my dog, she is my child. Anyone who does not understand what an important part animals play in the families cannot understand or deal with these situations. I applaud the recuse organizations that are on the scene helping with the resuce of animals.

My heart goes out to all of our evacuees and their families. It is times like this when it looks so dark for the victims of this diaster, but please, keep the faith and hope. There is always hope in our Lord above...trust Him to bring you to a bigger and brighter tomorrow full of hope and a future. I pray all day for all of you involved in Katrina's pathway of destruction that each of you will know God is walking along side of you to help you thru this traumatic time in your lives.

God be with each of you.

HELP ME PLEASE. MY FRIEND LIVES IN HARAHAN, WHEN THEY LOADED THEIR ANIMALS TO EVACUATE FOR THE STORM THEIR YELLOW LAB NAMED "YODA" RAN OFF. HE DOESN'T HAVE HIS COLLAR ON. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A WEBSITE OR ANYWAY TO SEARCH FOR THIS LOVED ONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I feel terrible for the people that were hit with this hurricane. Losing their pets on top of that is just cruel. I hope someone is able to get into these areas and rescue the pets that were left behind. I have 4 birds and it would drive me off the deep end to have to abandon them.

I wanted to pass along some information to those that are interested in this topic. There are many organizations presently working to rescue as many animals as possible in the states affected by Katrina. A good organization is American Humane. They are coordinating with many of the other animal rescue groups to get as many pets out of harms way as possible. I have donated some money to this group, and thought I would share the information with others concerned about our anmial companions.

Americanhumane.org is the website and they provide a daily blog of the latest news on animal rescues, and accept donations (are approved by the BBB).

My heart goes out to the people that are down there pulling animals out and putting themselves in harm's way to do so.

I AM IMPRESSED WITH ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR ANIMALS AND IS ALSO ASSISTING THEM AS MOST OF US HAS FORGOTTEN THE ANIMALS WAS FIRST PLACED ON THIS EARTH AND WE WERE PLACED HERE AFTERWORDS TO TAKE CARE OF THEM NOT TO ABUSE THEM, I'M SORRY THAT ONE OF OUR READERS FEEL THAT THEY MATTER LESS WHY NOT ASK THE ALMIGHTY THAT ?.

It upsets me to see. How people can take advantage of people dasters and use it for personal gaine, It was already stealing and robbing here in Beaumont and Port Arthur Texas. Having all those people here isn't the start of new crime. It was going on already and we know it. Please! If you can't help don't hurt. They have been hurt enough. Please lets take this and love each other and stop turning this into a black or a white thing it's a people thing What? if it's us the next time. It time to turn it around and take this thing from the ground. God Bless All Of Us!

I too saw the man on television that had to leave his two dogs, Taz and Trouble. I believe it aired on Sept. 6th. Please, Please, could someone, anyone, humane society, police, whatever try to locate these two dogs and save them. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this site. God Bless all the brave people and God Bless all the animals and try to bring them to safety, too. I have 4 cats and could never leave them. Thanks to all of you that are giving your time and efforts to this sad event.

First I want to send my prayers to Bill Harris and all the others in the gulf coast have who lost their homes and everything precious to them. Second I want to express my anger at rescuers who refuse to rescue people with their pets. I know if I were in this situation I would not leave my dogs or cats behind. They are part of my family and it would be like leaving a child left to die. I want to say to the Mayor of New Orleans that this is unforgivable. ALLOW these people to evacuate with their beloved PETS!

On the MSNBC coverage of the hurricane victims, I think that "fluffy" creatures are also pretty much involved in the disaster, and many also helped people to stay alive and fight for their lives, so Miss Kitty deserves the coverage the case is having, and I thank very much the guys that are looking for the "Outcasts" (not refugees, but people who became strangely an outcast in their own homes, isn´t this weird!) and telling their stories. Other broadcasting entities are equally doing a good job but we shouldn´t be judging who is covering better. It largely depends on what we are interested to see at the moment. This particular Blog is for the ones who are interested in seeing how a pet can be a blessing to someone´s life.
By the way, many humans have behaved in a manner much worse than wild animals in all the Superdome drama. So I believe many of these pets are way more human than some people. It is not the wild animals or the pets who are causing the effect which might be the cause of all these destructive storms.
Again, watch your pets very well for tornado or hurricane warnings, because they are so wise when it comes to sensing there is danger in the air.

I feel for the pets that have been peoples companions for years. The pictures of animals left behind just made my heart sink. I would leave today if I have the resouces to take care of my family, in order to goto the area and rescue these animals.

I applaud you for starting this blog, I have 2 dogs and a cat - it would take an army to MAKE me leave them behind. I think of them as my children with fur coats on. It breaks my heart to think of them being stranded there, just waiting for their owners to return. All victims, furry or not, are in my prayers. God Bless you all in this horrific time of need.

Imagine yourself a pet struggling in the water for footing - or sitting on a roof barking and wagging your tail at every person passing by - or searching for owners on bleeding feet day after day in a now unfamiliar neighborhood - or having to eat the flesh of the dead to survive - or drinking the vile waters laying all around you - or crying the soft cry only a lost animal can muster when left behind on the roadside. I wish I was closer. I'd take in strays like there was no tomorrow....and for many of the strays, there isn't.
