WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 10, Miss. -- On our way from Pascagoula, Miss., to Slidell, La., we saw a much more important milestone in the recovery process than the return of fast food, which we mentioned Tuesday: Numerous gas stations along this major coastal artery are now pumping fuel without the long lines we've seen since our arrival.

We topped off our tank just outside Biloxi, Miss., and waited only a few minutes. Prices are headed up, though; we paid $2.79 a gallon, 20 cents more than our last fill-up.
